The 16th edition of the Asian Games will be held in Guangzhou in China from November 12 to November 27. 2010. 45 of the Asian countries will participate, A total of 476 events in 42 sports will be contested by athletes, making it the largest event in history of the Games.
There are 53 competition venues and 17 training venues available for the Games, with four venues held outside the Guangdong province.
There will be 47 Gold medals at stake for Athletics and 44 for shooting, making it two of the biggest contributors to the count. Some of the other important sports which will contribute to the medals count greatly will be the Aquatics event which will see teams and individuals win 52 gold medals.
For the first time in the Asian Games, cricket will be introduced, and there will be two gold medals at stake. There will also be four other sports making their debut; dragon boat, weiqi, dancesport, and roller sport.
The opening ceremony will be held on November 12 and the closing ceremony will be on November 27.

About Robert Louis Stevenson
Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894), Scottish poet, essayist, and author wrote Treasure Island (1883).
Having been enamoured of the locals who bestowed the name "Tusitala" or "Teller of Tales" on him, Stevenson purchased four hundred acres that would be the setting for his mansion "Vailima" (Five Rivers) in the village of same name. Stevenson immersed himself in the local culture and politics of his new home, and continued his prodigious output of novels and letters. Robert Louis Stevenson died at home of a stroke on 3 December 1894, his beloved Fanny by his side. His tomb at Mount Vaea is inscribed thus;
"Under the wide and starry sky, Dig the grave and let me lie. Glad did I live and gladly die, And I laid me down with a will. This be the verse you grave for me, Here he lies where he longed to be. Home is the sailor home from the sea, And the hunter home from the hill.
