With a recently concluded Lilith 2010 tour, Sarah McLachlan is ready for her fall tour, which will start on November 1 in Dallas.

The fall tour named Sarah and Friends, will have two sets. The first set will feature the singer-songwriter collaborating with other guest performers and the second set will include McLachlan’s greatest songs, with tracks from her recent album.

Netezza Sold to IBM for $1.7B Will Help Big Blue Tackle Big Data

The hits keep coming for IBM in Massachusetts—and this one is a biggie. The company (NYSE: IBM) announced this morning it plans to acquire Marlborough, MA-based Netezza (NYSE: NZ), the business analytics and data warehousing firm, for about $1.7 billion in cash. It will be Big Blue’s 18th acquisition of a company based in the Bay State (or with significant operations here) since 2003, and the largest since Cognos in 2008, which went for $4.9 billion. The news comes on the heels of IBM’s acquisition of Boston-area companies Unica last month and OpenPages last week.

IBM and Netezza have worked together for years — Netezza says its entire product platform is based on IBM hardware. No surprise, then, that IBM would target it as it bolsters its presence in analytics, a market it believes will be one of its main sources of growth in the future. In the last four years alone, IBM has made 23 analytics-related acquisitions totaling $12 billion.

MIAMI — Cubs rookie Tyler Colvin was hospitalized Sunday after his chest was punctured by part of a shattered bat.

Colvin was standing on third base in the second inning of Chicago’s 13-3 victory at Florida when he was struck by a sliver of Welington Castillo’s maple bat. Castillo doubled on the play and Colvin scored, but was replaced in the field in the bottom half.

“I feel really bad about it,” Castillo said. “It wasn’t on purpose, but he’s my teammate. I hope he’s getting better.”

She finished dead last by a long shot, but she won everyone’s hearts and raised 5 thousand dollars.

A destructive shape in Uttarakhand, continual rain in the hill state that activated floods and landslides, killing over 50 people, has put the Tehri dam under brutal danger. Water level in the reservoir touched an alarming 828.85- meter mark on Sunday.

The danger mark of 830 meters, the routine water discharge system will set off and that could cause heavy flooding in downstream towns such as Rishikesh and Haridwar. The water level was expected to cross the 830 meter mark by midnight.

The Tehri administration shifted people from 6 villages downstream to safer locations. The flood threat is threatening large over the villages on the bank of Bhagirathi where it meets the Alaknanda to form the Ganga.

The Koteshwar dam is located concerning 10 kms downstream of the Tehri dam. Tehri dam’s general manager A. L. Shah said that “The dam is safe and there is no need to worry”. Chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has required Rs 5,000 core as flood relief from the Centre.

The army is secondary the state government in abandon villages that were flooded by the swelling Ganga waters. A National Disaster Response Force company has reached the precious zone.

The chief minister and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj spoke to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday, asking him to interfere and help the state tide over the severe situation. According to reports, emanating from the state, several villages in Haridwar were flooded in flood water.
