U.S. Open 2011 Schedule For Monday Final Grand Slam Gets Underway 2011

The news that two-time defending champion Kim Clijsters would not be able to participate in the 2011 U.S. Open due to an abdominal injury surely brought sighs of relief throughout the women's bracket. Clijsters has won 21 consecutive matches in Flushing.

Then again, with Serena Williams again approaching her prime form, it's not like it's the field is totally wide open. After missing the 2010 Open, Serena appears to have regained her hard court form, looking healthy for perhaps the first time in 18 months. Another potential champ is 2006 winner Maria Sharapova, who has seen her play fluctuate for much of the season, but is more than capable, especially considering her recent win in Ohio.

Three other names to watch for are former U.S. Open and Wimbledon runner-up Vera Zvonareva, Victoria Azarenka (who just won in Miami on the hard court and could play Serena in the third round) and 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, who may be ready to assert herself as a legitimate top three player.

Welcome back, Serena. Despite being seeded 28th, Williams appears to have overcome the foot injury and blood clot that caused her to miss 18 months of action. Her serve is once again consistent and powerful, her forehand is nearly unstoppable and her fitness is vastly improved. Poised to regain her status as the premier player in the women's game, she has already won tournaments on the hard court twice this summer, including a recent victory in Montreal. The three-time U.S. Open champ should have smooth sailing deep into the tournament with the exception of Victoria Azarenka.

NEW DELHI: The Coal Ministry today informed Parliament that state-run power major NTPC and aluminium company NALCO were not supplied the full quantity of coal they contracted from state-run Coal India during the April-June, 2011 period.

"CIL has reported that during April-July, 2011, dispatches to NALCO's captive power plant... were 1.828 million tonnes (MT) against the pro-rata Annual Contract Quantity (ACQ) of 1.91 MT," Minister of State for Coal Pratik Prakashbapu Patil said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

"Dispatches to NTPC power stations were 36.622 MT, as against the pro-rata ACQ of 50.126 MT," Patil said.

The Coal Ministry had earlier ruled out any shortfalls in coal supply to power stations.

The minister also said that the coal stock with the power stations increased by 14 per cent to 13 million tonnes (MT) in July this year from 11.5 MT in the same month last year.

"The coal stock with power stations has increased from 11.517 million tonnes at the end of July, 2010, to 13.164 million tonnes at the end of July, 2011," Patil said.

For the current fiscal, the minister said, Coal India Ltd (CIL) has offered to supply 447 MT of coal to power utilities, subject to the availability of wagons from the Railways.

Earlier, the ministry had said CIL -- which accounts for more than 80 per cent of domestic coal production -- has been dispatching coal as per the targets fixed in its annual supply plan.

During the last three years, dispatches to power utilities amounted to 102 per cent, 96 per cent and 91 per cent, respectively, of targets, the Coal Ministry had said.

The power project slated to come up at a remote backward region, Adra at Manpura village in Purulia district of West Bengal, was first announced by Mamata Banerjee at her Railway Budget speech for 2009-10 following which a memorandum of understanding was signed between the two parties in October 2010.

It is not likely to face any delay due to land acquisition as Indian Railways is already in possession of all the land required for it.

“The total land requirement for the project is about 1,000 acre. Land required for the main plant including ash pond is about 970 acre and for colony about 30 acre. As land for the project is already in the possession of the Ministry of Railways, there will be no displacement and hence no issues related to resettlement and rehabilitation,” said the report prepared for environmental clearance for the project.

“Land shall be acquired as per rules of West Bengal state government and suitable compensation/R&R measures shall be provided as per state government norms,” it said.

The JV partners are required to acquire only 155 acres for laying water pipeline.

The public Hearing for the project is scheduled to be held on September 6. The power project would be coal-based for which application for coal linkage to the plant has been submitted to the coal ministry.

"Approximately 7.42 million tonnes of coal per annum would be required for the proposed plant. Maximum of about 900 tonne per hour will be required to operate the proposed plant,” the report available with DNA said.

NTPC, which holds the majority 74% stake in Bharatiya Rail Bijlee, formed the joint venture in 2007 with Indian Railways, having the balance 26%, to generate power exclusively for running the large network of Electric Multiple Unit coaches in the country.

“Indian Railway avails power for traction supply for feeding electrical supply for running trains on electrified routes from distribution companies, power companies and state electricity boards. Its annual consumption of electricity for traction use at present is 13 billion units and average purchase cost is Rs4.46/kWh,” the report said.

Bharatiya Rail Bijlee is currently executing another project of 1000mw capacity at Nabinagar in Bihar at an investment of Rs5,352 crore.

The work on the project, conceived way back in 2002 during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as the railway minister, had suffered inordinate delays primarily because of the nature of the joint venture.

Following series of meetings, the railways and NTPC agreed upon the specifics including the beneficiaries of the project and equity stake each partner will own. The Railway department has now accepted that out of total power generated, 10% would be earmarked to other users to be identified by NTPC.

Gold Class Professionals

I-CAR, the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair, in collaboration with the General Motors Corvette team has announced that it will offer a three and a half day hands-on Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 training course beginning September 13 and running through September 30, with additional dates being added in October and November. The training will be held at the I-CAR Tech Centre in Appleton, Wisconsin.

iCar

Jason Bartanen, I-CAR Technical Director said, “Vehicle makers are continually looking for ways to lighten vehicle structures and there is a strong likelihood that the industry will see more aluminum-intensive vehicles. The I-CAR Corvette ZR1 course offers a tremendous opportunity for repairers to receive a premier training experience, as well as earn credit toward the I-CAR Platinum Individual® designation.”

This unique opportunity will provide individuals with the same world class training that Corvette ZR1 certified collision repair technicians receive and is open to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis. The Corvette ZR1 training will allow individuals to enhance their knowledge and skills in aluminum vehicle repair through performing hands-on welding and riveting repairs on Corvette ZR1 space frames. Individuals will also be able to perform sectioning activities, following General Motors repair procedures.

A recent student from the Corvette ZR1 course stated, “When I started the class, I knew nothing about aluminum welding. I now know how to confidently weld aluminum and section frames. This is one of the most informative courses that I have ever attended,” the student continued, “With the hands-on training and excellent guidance from the instructors, I would not have a second thought about sectioning or replacing a frame rail on a Corvette.

Recognizing Business Achievements

The I-CAR Gold Class Professionals® designation is among the highest recognitions for training available to businesses in the collision repair inter-industry and is designed to help the collision industry meet its changing needs. Businesses who have earned this designation not only achieve a high level of training for each employee, but also maintain annual training to provide their customers with efficient, safe, and high-quality services.

Be Recognized as an I-CAR Gold Class Professionals® Business

For a collision repair business to qualify for the I-CAR Gold Class Professionals® designation, it must declare a minimum of one I-CAR Platinum Individual® as a Role Representative in each of the following four roles:

Please Note- An employee may represent more than one role; however training will be required for each role they have declared. Role Representative designation may be completed online within the I-CAR Training Manager tool. Access the I-CAR Training Manager Guide for assistance. I-CAR Customer Care Representatives are available to answer your questions Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. CST. Call 800.422.7872,

All other employees who have not been declared as Role Representatives will only be required to complete a minimum of two points of role-relevant training for their declared role in order to qualify; this training must be completed within a 12 month time-frame of the business applying for its designation.

Click here to learn more about the I-CAR Gold Class Professionals® requirements for a collision repair business.

Insurers and Other Businesses

Insurer or non-collision repair businesses can continue to qualify for the I-CAR Gold Class Professionals® designation under the former “5&2” rule through December, 2011. Information about a new program tailored specifically for businesses not directly involved with the physical repair will be available in the future. Like the program for collision repairers, it will recognize professional development training relevant to the declared role, therefore it is suggested that any new training taken be within the role-specific menu of courses.

Mumbai weather forecast and weather conditions 2011

MUMBAI: Four days of heavy downpour has hit the lifeline of Mumbai -- the local trains. Tens of thousands of passengers had a harrowing time getting to office Monday morning as service at most stations was suspended due to flooding on the tracks, officials said.
All Central Railway suburban train services were hit between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus-Thane and beyond Karjat (Raigad) where a portion of the track was washed away Sunday.

Similarly, the Harbor Line service was suspended between VT and Mankhurd and was being operated only between Panvel and Mankhurd, an official spokesperson said.

Delays also marred the services on Western Railway (WR) on account of incessant heavy rains which have being lashing the city and other parts of the state since last week.

In view of the problems faced by students, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Monday declared a holiday for all civic schools.
Several subways, including Dahisar, Kandivli, Malad, Jogeshwari, Santacruz, were flooded, hitting road traffic.
Waterlogging was reported at roads near several station areas, creating massive traffic snarls.
Traffic on both Eastern Express Highway and Western Express Highway went out of gear, as also the other main and arterial roads crisscrossing the city.
Flooding plagued the usual flood-prone areas like Parel, Dadar, Andheri, Malad, Dahisar, Kurla, Sion, Ghatkopar and Byculla.
Similar problems were reported in nearby suburbs of Thane like Mira Road, Vasai, Nalla-Sopara, Virar, Kalyan, and villages in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts.
The weather office has forecast more rains in Mumbai and other parts of the state till Tuesday morning.

Teachers Day in India Celebrating the Legacy of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan 2011

sarvepalli_radhakrishnan September 5 is Teachers' Day. Not only a day to remember your teacher and say ‘thank you' but to also pay tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

The world celebrates Teacher's Day on October 15, but in India, this important day is celebrated on September 5, the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, an academic philosopher and India's second President.

Dedicated to this great man's memory, the occasion is looked forward to by students and teachers alike. It provides an opportunity to take a moment and thank some of the most important people in our lives, the ones who impart knowledge and instruct us.

The great and lasting influence a teacher can have on the student's life is undeniable, and a good teacher is remembered forever.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan staunchly believed in the importance of education and was one of India's celebrated diplomat, politician, scholar and above all, teacher. He also wrote on a number of issues and subjects, and to date, his books remain an excellent source of information and knowledge.

His life

Born in a small town of Madras Presidency to a poor Telugu family on September 5, 1888, Dr. Radhakrishnan was an intelligent and diligent student, who was awarded scholarships and accolades throughout his student life. He graduated from Madras Christian College with a degree in Philosophy and his thesis was published when he was only 20 years old. In 1918, Dr. Radhakrishnan was selected as Professor of Philosophy by the University of Mysore.

He became the Principal of Harris Manchester College and later, in 1931, was knighted by George V for his services to education. He did not use the title but chose to be addressed by his academic title of Doctor.

For Dr. Radhakrishnan, the issues of education and nationalism were intertwined, and he believed that a good and complete education would quicken not only the development of the individual but is the only responsible and practical means to the creation of Indian solidarity and clarity of national vision.

He was greatly admired and loved as a teacher, and Dr. Radhakrishnan's students approached him after he became President, with the request to celebrate his birthday, September 5. He replied that it would be his proud privilege if instead of just as his birthday, September 5 was observed as Teachers' Day in the country. The request clearly showed Dr. Radhakrishnan's love and dedication towards the vocation.

Calcutta, India, Aug 26, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio) In India 5th September is celebrated as Teachers' day as a mark of tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society. 5th September is the birthday of a great teacher Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of education, and was the well-known diplomat, scholar, president of India and above all a teacher. The day commemorates the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakhrishnan, a philosopher and a teacher par excellence, and his contribution towards Indian education system. Dr Radhakhrishnan believed that "teachers should be the best minds in the country". On this day, we gratefully remember the great educationist, apart from honoring all the teachers that have made our life much more knowledgeable and fulfilled, as serving as our beacons of light.
Be innovative: Hold the attention of the students

When Dr. Radhakrishnan became the President of India in 1962, he was approached by some of his students and friends and requested him to allow them to celebrate 5th September, his "birthday". In reply, Dr.Radhakrishnan said, "instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as Teachers' day". The request showed Dr. Radhakrishnan's love for the teaching profession. From then onwards, the day has been observed as Teachers' Day in India.

One of the most celebrated writers in the modern India today his work varies on philosophical, theological, ethical, educational, social and cultural subjects. He contributed numerous articles to different well-known journals, which, are of immense value and seems to surprise various readers because of the depth in the meaning of the articles.

Teacher's day is now one of the occasions that is looked forward by the teachers and students alike as on this occasion its not only when teachers are praised but also around various schools students dress up as a representation of their teachers and take various lectures that are assigned to the teachers they represent. As the day passes the students perform the regular activities that are performed by the teacher's. On this day students realize what it means to be a teacher and what it means to control the future of several students in their classes and also teachers are reminded what it felt like when they were the students.

Apart from the fun aspect of the day it is also a day when one can look back, admire and get inspired by Dr. Radhakrishnan, a small town cunning boy, who grew up to become one of the most respected politicians in the history of democracy of India.

Schools all over India celebrate Teacher’s Day by allowing the senior students to pose as teachers for a day. It is a fun-filled activity, which is enjoyed by both the acting teachers and their junior students. On this day, students bring gifts for their most admired teachers as well. It is an equally special day for teachers, as they get to know how much they are liked and appreciated by their students. Gifts to teachers include flowers, greeting cards and other items. Some students also write poems and messages for teachers.

Students look forward to Teacher’s Day with a lot of anticipation, for the sheer spirit of the occasion. Acting as teachers, they get a fair idea of the responsibility, so efficiently burdened by their teachers. It requires a lot of hard work and dedication to be a good teacher and earn the fondness of the students at the same time. Teachers, on this day, are reminded of their school days and feel nostalgic. All in all, it is celebration mode for everyone!

Teachers' Day is very important for all the people in India, as the teachers act as foundation for creating responsible citizens and good human beings. It is impossible to imagine our lives without teachers. They are the cornerstone of our future. We can never thank our teachers enough for their immense contribution in our life. Teacher's Day is celebrated to show our acknowledgement and recognition of the hard work put in by our teachers towards our development.
