Government primary school, Poterlane celebrated pre-teachers day cum 25th Teachers’ in-charge anniversary of Kikruneiü Kire today here at hotel Japfu.
DEO cum District Coordinator DMA (SSA) Kohima, Zaveyi Nyekha graced the celebration as the resource person. Congratulating Kikruneiü Kire for attaining 25 years in service, Nyekha said the students and colony has gained in many ways through her contribution. He also encouraged Kire to explore the rest of the 10 years service, planning and refining the educational system and to be a role model for the students and the Nagas. The DEO maintained that the 25th anniversary programme will be maintained in DEO’s office for record.
Nyekha urged the students to be discipline and maintain proper timing for studies while also to abstain from indulging in bad habits. Sharing her experience and aspirations, Kikruneiü Kire said her achievements have been through with the support of the students and teachers whom she considers the school as her home and teachers as her family. She said her concern for school made her to decline promotion in the year 2004 and called upon, to work together as team, family and to give best education to the students.
The programme was marked by songs, dances, presentation, voluntary speech by the students and greeting by Ward education committee (WEC) chairman.

Dish Network Corp. (DISH), the second largest U.S. satellite-TV provider, will introduce a Blockbuster streaming-movie service to compete with Netflix Inc. (NFLX) next month, according to a person with direct knowledge of the plans.

The timing is designed to coincide with price increases being implemented by Netflix, according to the person, who declined to be named because Dish’s new offering isn’t public. Starting this month, Netflix said it will charge separate fees for mail-order and streaming videos, raising the price by 60 percent to $15.98 for customers who want both options. Dish hasn’t set a price for its rival service, the person said.

Dish acquired almost all of Blockbuster’s assets in April for $320 million out of bankruptcy. The company is trying to transform Blockbuster into a business that can compete online with Netflix, Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) and Hulu LLC. U.S. residents watched an average 4 hours 33 minutes of video on the Internet monthly in the first quarter, a 35 percent increase from a year earlier, according to a Nielsen Holdings NV report.

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most popular of Hindu festivals 2011

LUDHIANA: This Ganesh Chaturthi the city would have something to trumpet about -- a 90 ft tall idol of Lord Ganesha, which has been in the making for the past two years. And it will be a gift to the city by Rajesh Rudra, a resident of Model Town and an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. With the pedestal the idol stands 100 ft tall and is one of the tallest in the country.

Rudra, who owns a chain of schools in the city, had specially brought 10 artists from Orissa for the construction of the idol that is now all set for its pran pratishtha on Thursday on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi. "I have spent Rs 25 lakh on the idol and am quite excited now that finishing touches are being given to it," he said.

Owing to his devotion and love for the deity Rudra, who in the daytime is busy in his schools' activities, spends his time in the evening sitting and watching the idol being made on National Highway No 1 outside his school. There are many more who stop by to watch it being made, as it is visible to all passers by even from a long distance because of its height and size.
Recollecting the time when he dreamt of getting such a huge idol made, Rudra said he was not such an ardent devotee of Lord Ganesha earlier and it was only on June 20, 1998, that he underwent a supernatural experience that brought him very close to the deity.

Rajesh Rudra said: "I was in Delhi and was really feeling exhausted as the project of my school had gone into a limbo because of certain hurdles and was virtually in a mindset where I could even have committed suicide. In the morning at around 4 I saw Ganesha. I was seated near his feet with my head on his thigh. I gained consciousness only when I received a call from my wife, who was also worried about me."

He said after this experience he felt very light, all his work got done and he decided about getting a big Ganesha idol made. "I did not have the resources at that time, but now I am quite comfortable and thus I did not delay it any further," he added.

Located at Lalbaug market, Lalbaugcha Raja is one of the oldest sarvajanik (public) Ganesh festivals of Mumbai established in 1934.

During the pre-Independence era, the festival was used as a platform by the prominent leaders to generate opinion against the British empire.

Lalbaugcha Raja is truly a King in all respects and it pays to seek his audience.

A mere glance of the deity which is labeled as mukh darshantakes about two-and-a-half-hours wait in the queue during weekdays and eight to nine hours during weekends.

Any actor who thinks he is a sex symbol has got a serious problem. He's the Bandra lad whose good looks and deadpan delivery has made him one of Indian Film Industry's biggest and the most bankable star at the box office. Then there are those who take Salman seriously and those who don't. The truth is that he does the same - he takes you in for a ride or he leaves you midway stranded. Then there is his illness and the entire country praying for him. The truth is that he doesn't care and in his trademark style quotes, "I'm alright. I'm fine. It's just that I had some short circuit in my head". That's when you start to respect the man for not being a star but Salman Khan. He still has the noticeable 'bhai' burr and a slight roughness around the edges but everything else about him screams 'superstar'. I meet the actor at Mehboob studio just hours before he was supposed to travel to the U.S. for his treatment. With his black polo neck t-shirt with 'Bodyguard' printed on it and his favourite denim and black boots, Khan looked as if he cared the least about who is on the other side interviewing him. I come to know that because he stared at me with unnerving focus, and after a brief pause he smiles but doesn't make an eye contact with you. He then gets up, lights his cigarette, chats with few of his friends who've accompanied him at Mehboob while his bodyguards make sure that no stranger enters his domain. All said but beneath the shiny varnish of his fame and wealth and super power status, there is something appealing about Salman's belief that he could just as easily have turned out doing something altogether more normal. There goes his humour again, "I still haven't figured that out because I'm just normal". I don't believe that I am doing all the same kinds of movies. Wanted was different than Dabangg. Dabangg was different from Ready and so is Bodyguard different from all the ones I've mentioned. It's just that because the action is the same, people think that I do similar roles but it's not the truth. Bodyguard is a beautiful love story that I'm doing after a lot of action films that have kept me busy.

Kareena has been promoting the film as this is my best love story since Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. I'm surprised (laughs). I can't comment on that because it's her take. It's a compliment but I think this is way different than that. Kareena is one of the best actresses I've worked with. I've also enjoyed working with her sister Lolo who is a dear friend too.

"I like doing movies that I like to watch as an audience"
I like doing movies that I like to watch as an audience. I will never do a movie that someone else liked it and recommended me. The audience's reaction is all what matters to me. That's my award. Bodyguard was originally from the South but because I thought that I'd like to see this film from an audience's perspective. I always do and I will keep on doing just that.

"I've not asked Shera for any feedback on how I should do my role"
My character of Bodyguard was scripted and not researched. So why would I want Shera to inform me how to look and how to act. Tomorrow if I do a film called 'Driver' I will never ask my driver for tips. I follow scripts and that's it. If the director wishes to change anything then we talk it out and I give my inputs sometime. Like the idea of the bodyguard wearing a Bluetooth was mine. That's how today bodyguards look like, right?

"I'd like to believe that songs are the highlight of this movie too"
The songs are becoming a rage, especially the title track that people are dancing on. Kids too love the song. Then there is 'Teri Meri' that's a beautiful rendition. That's one of my favourites too. Yes, I'd like to believe that songs are the highlight of this movie too.

"I am perfectly fine. It's just that I had a short circuit in my nerve"
If I wasn't fine I wouldn't have been giving you this interview. Yes, I am going to get this treated and by that time my film would've released. I am that didn't do well at the box office. So hope the chemistry changes this time around (smiles). taking precautions and will soon get it cured, don't worry. No pain no gain as they say.

U.S. Open 2011 Schedule For Monday Final Grand Slam Gets Underway 2011

The news that two-time defending champion Kim Clijsters would not be able to participate in the 2011 U.S. Open due to an abdominal injury surely brought sighs of relief throughout the women's bracket. Clijsters has won 21 consecutive matches in Flushing.

Then again, with Serena Williams again approaching her prime form, it's not like it's the field is totally wide open. After missing the 2010 Open, Serena appears to have regained her hard court form, looking healthy for perhaps the first time in 18 months. Another potential champ is 2006 winner Maria Sharapova, who has seen her play fluctuate for much of the season, but is more than capable, especially considering her recent win in Ohio.

Three other names to watch for are former U.S. Open and Wimbledon runner-up Vera Zvonareva, Victoria Azarenka (who just won in Miami on the hard court and could play Serena in the third round) and 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, who may be ready to assert herself as a legitimate top three player.

Welcome back, Serena. Despite being seeded 28th, Williams appears to have overcome the foot injury and blood clot that caused her to miss 18 months of action. Her serve is once again consistent and powerful, her forehand is nearly unstoppable and her fitness is vastly improved. Poised to regain her status as the premier player in the women's game, she has already won tournaments on the hard court twice this summer, including a recent victory in Montreal. The three-time U.S. Open champ should have smooth sailing deep into the tournament with the exception of Victoria Azarenka.

NTPC Ltd Scholarships for Engineering Students Last Date 12th September 2011

NEW DELHI: The Coal Ministry today informed Parliament that state-run power major NTPC and aluminium company NALCO were not supplied the full quantity of coal they contracted from state-run Coal India during the April-June, 2011 period.

"CIL has reported that during April-July, 2011, dispatches to NALCO's captive power plant... were 1.828 million tonnes (MT) against the pro-rata Annual Contract Quantity (ACQ) of 1.91 MT," Minister of State for Coal Pratik Prakashbapu Patil said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

"Dispatches to NTPC power stations were 36.622 MT, as against the pro-rata ACQ of 50.126 MT," Patil said.

The Coal Ministry had earlier ruled out any shortfalls in coal supply to power stations.

The minister also said that the coal stock with the power stations increased by 14 per cent to 13 million tonnes (MT) in July this year from 11.5 MT in the same month last year.

"The coal stock with power stations has increased from 11.517 million tonnes at the end of July, 2010, to 13.164 million tonnes at the end of July, 2011," Patil said.

For the current fiscal, the minister said, Coal India Ltd (CIL) has offered to supply 447 MT of coal to power utilities, subject to the availability of wagons from the Railways.

Earlier, the ministry had said CIL -- which accounts for more than 80 per cent of domestic coal production -- has been dispatching coal as per the targets fixed in its annual supply plan.

During the last three years, dispatches to power utilities amounted to 102 per cent, 96 per cent and 91 per cent, respectively, of targets, the Coal Ministry had said.
ELIGIBILITY

Students belonging to SC/ST/Physically Challenged categories (Visually Handicapped/ Hearing Handicapped/ Orthopaedically Handicapped) and pursuing 4 years full time degree course in Engineering in the disciplines of Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Computer Science, Electronics / Telecommunication from a college/ university/ institute recognized by the Govt. of India and should be in the 3rd Year in the session 2011-2012. Those who have successfully completed the 1st year degree course in 2010 & 2nd year in 2011 in the first attempt – only need apply. They should not be receiving any financial aid or assistance from any source.

SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT
The scholarship is admissible from the second year of study till the final year subject to the condition that the student meets the minimum qualifying criterion for success in each year. The amount of scholarship is Rs.1500/- P.M. Total 35scholarships will be granted (20 SC, 10 ST and 05 PC).

The power project slated to come up at a remote backward region, Adra at Manpura village in Purulia district of West Bengal, was first announced by Mamata Banerjee at her Railway Budget speech for 2009-10 following which a memorandum of understanding was signed between the two parties in October 2010.

It is not likely to face any delay due to land acquisition as Indian Railways is already in possession of all the land required for it.

“The total land requirement for the project is about 1,000 acre. Land required for the main plant including ash pond is about 970 acre and for colony about 30 acre. As land for the project is already in the possession of the Ministry of Railways, there will be no displacement and hence no issues related to resettlement and rehabilitation,” said the report prepared for environmental clearance for the project.

“Land shall be acquired as per rules of West Bengal state government and suitable compensation/R&R measures shall be provided as per state government norms,” it said.

The JV partners are required to acquire only 155 acres for laying water pipeline.

The public Hearing for the project is scheduled to be held on September 6. The power project would be coal-based for which application for coal linkage to the plant has been submitted to the coal ministry.

"Approximately 7.42 million tonnes of coal per annum would be required for the proposed plant. Maximum of about 900 tonne per hour will be required to operate the proposed plant,” the report available with DNA said.

NTPC, which holds the majority 74% stake in Bharatiya Rail Bijlee, formed the joint venture in 2007 with Indian Railways, having the balance 26%, to generate power exclusively for running the large network of Electric Multiple Unit coaches in the country.

“Indian Railway avails power for traction supply for feeding electrical supply for running trains on electrified routes from distribution companies, power companies and state electricity boards. Its annual consumption of electricity for traction use at present is 13 billion units and average purchase cost is Rs4.46/kWh,” the report said.

Bharatiya Rail Bijlee is currently executing another project of 1000mw capacity at Nabinagar in Bihar at an investment of Rs5,352 crore.

The work on the project, conceived way back in 2002 during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as the railway minister, had suffered inordinate delays primarily because of the nature of the joint venture.

Following series of meetings, the railways and NTPC agreed upon the specifics including the beneficiaries of the project and equity stake each partner will own. The Railway department has now accepted that out of total power generated, 10% would be earmarked to other users to be identified by NTPC.
