A high intensity blast ripped apart the staff quarters of a government public health centre in Kalyanpur. Three persons were confirmed dead and 15, including children, were feared trapped in the debris. The PHC building packed with patients escaped the impact of explosion. The police ruled out any
Kalyanpur and surrounding areas are infamous for storage and making of fire crackers that is accelerated ahead of Diwali. In the last one week five persons lost theirs lives following explosion in units churning out fire crackers illegally.
District Magistrate Mukesh Meshram said the rescue operations were on and four critically injured were shifted to LLR hospital. The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) however has been rushed to scene of blast to assist the local police.
The blast was so intense that it tore down six of nine staff quarters on the PHC campus.
"The sound was deafening. A whistling sound kept ringing and utensil fell around people standing and watching the scene in utter shock," said Aditya Tripathi who informed the police control room.
Sushant Pandey, a B Tech student at HBTI Kanpur, and Aditya Tripathi were first to reach the staff quarters and found several persons trapped.
"I pulled out at least four persons and heard shrieks of children apparently deep inside the debris," said Sushant.CLICK HERE FOR MORE VACANCY
The preliminary analysis of fire department suggests the blast occurred in the quarter of a ward boy Rajesh who was storing fire crackers.
